Core Standards of the Course

STRAND 1
General Medical Terms-WILL BE USED THROUGHOUT ALL OTHER STANDARDS. Students will define general medical terms.

Recognize word construction and dissection.

Performance Skills

  1. Interpret and extract information from realistic medical documents.
  2. Use reputed medical reference resources to find related information. (i.e. medical reference websites or hardbound medical reference books.)
  3. Apply medical terminology to a real-life setting. (i.e. define medical terms heard in a television show or read in an article.)

Workplace Skills
Students will develop professional and interpersonal skills needed for success in industry.

  1. Determine the difference between hard skills and soft skills.
    • Hard Skills: Hard skills are specific, teachable abilities that can be defined and measured
    • Soft Skills: Personal attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people
  2. Identify soft skills needed in the workplace
    • Professionalism
    • Respect Legal requirements/expectations
    • Good communication skills
    • Resourcefulness & creativity
    • Work Ethic
