Reading (6.R)

Students will learn to proficiently read and comprehend grade level literature and informational text, including seminal U.S. documents of historical and literary significance, at the high end of the grade level text complexity band, with scaffolding as needed. *Standard R.4 includes an asterisk to refer educators back to the Text Complexity Grade Bands and Associated Lexile Ranges in the introduction of the standards.

Standard 6.R.7:

Compare two or more characters, settings, or events in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text. (RL)
Analyze in detail how a key individual, event, or idea is introduced, illustrated, and elaborated in a text. (RI)
  • A Trip to Wonderland: The Nursery 'Alice'
    This lesson plan explores elements of wonder, distortion, fantasy, and whimsy in The Nursery "Alice," Lewis Carroll's adaptation for younger readers of his beloved classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
  • News Matters Unit Plan
    In this unit, students will learn about major standards of quality journalism and why news matters. Through a series of five main lessons, they will distinguish fact from fiction, zone different types of information into their primary purposes, recognize elements of quality journalism, gauge the newsworthiness of topics and stories and identify key journalism terminology. It?s meant to be a starting point for conversations about and interest in journalism.
