Locate identified sources and access information within sources.
  • Career Research - Biography
    This is a lesson plan regarding middle school research. Students first complete their career research (different lesson plan). Next they complete this lesson which is completing a biography on an important person in their chosen career.  Picture taken by Jann Leishman  
  • Explore the World a Country at a Time
    This lesson plan gives students a chance to learn about a country of their choice by accessing two databases to pull information from: Culturegrams and World Book Online. They are given a list of topics that need to be included in their project (which also serves as their assessment).   • Genius Hour
    This lesson has been created to use with a 6th grade class. The format is a genius hour format. Students will be choosing a topic on a current event and researching that current event. They will create an infographic using Adobe Spark that shows the inforamation they found.The graphic for the cover page was created by Jean Robinson using Canva.
  • Genius Hour Project (Math) Lesson Plan
    Thumbnail Image:  "creative quote" by Sean MacEntee is licensed under CC BY 2.0 This lesson plan is on how I would implement a Genius Hour Project into my classroom.  It has some ideas of how to get started with your students, how to help students reflect on their project each day, ideas of final projects, a final project rubric to guide students in their presentation, and an idea of how to share and recognize the students' great work.
  • Library Photo Scavenger Hunt
    This lesson is designed to be used as a library orientation generally done in conjunction with Ninth Grade English teachers and their classes.
  • Location and Access: Threading the Needle
    The Big6 is a six-stage model to help anyone solve problems or make decisions by using information. Students can use this model to guide them through the research process. This resource is a lesson plan to guide students in internet research.
  • Senior Capstone 1: Evaluating Sources
    In this lesson students learn how to evaluate web sources for accuracy, relevancy, and credibility.
  • Senior Capstone 2: Using Databases and Library Catalog
    This lesson plan introduces databases and the library catalog to students who are completing the Senior Capstone project.
  • Senior Capstone 3: Using Databases and Summarizing
    Students actively research their individual topics for valid sources using CRAAP tool in the Media Lab or in the classroom equipped with a mobile lab. Students select "best" sources from both print and digital "pools" and complete a rhetorical précis on each source that will be used/cited in their research papers.
  • Tech Fun Friday Project
    *This lesson plan is adaptable for various projects involving technology.  This is a general lesson plan used for our Tech Fun Fridays. Students who are caught up in all core classes and not missing any assignemnts are given time to do their own research on a topic that they are interested in. They must conduct research, create a presentation to compile their research, cite sources, create a project (3D printing, animation, etc.), carry about that project including taking and editing photos of their final project to include at the end of their presentation and then practice their public speaking by presenting to the class. (This covers many core standards depending on what grade you teach. Please reference the standards you are working with to determine which ones fit this lesson.)
