Background for Teachers

A teacher need to be familiar with the UTIPS account registration and login processes. Also, a working knowledge of the mouse over process and layout of the UTIPS creation site. Specifically the Blog and Calendar creation process is needed. See the materials section for websites and handouts needed.


Student Prior Knowledge

A student would need to master the skills of filling in internet text boxes, copying, pasting and uploading documents to be successful. Familiarity with 'mouse over' as opposed to click is also a plus.


Intended Learning Outcomes

The intended learning outcomes for this lesson are:

-the student will be able to locate and register for a UTIPS account on the NUTIPS site

-the student will be able to login to the NUTIPS account and locate the Blog and Calendar features

-the student will be able to navigate the Blog and Calendar features well enough to create and publish a blog and a calendar


Instructional Procedures


Teacher

* The teacher should demonstrate where to find the NUTIPS account registration page.

* The teacher should demonstrate how to login to the NUTIPS account.

* The teacher should give a brief explanation of 'mouse over' and the various buttons in the NUTIPS creation site.

* The teacher should demonstrate how to create a Blog and give a brief explanation of what a blog is and why it is useful in the classroom.

Student

* The student should register with NUTIPS.

* The student should login to the NUTIPS site.

* The student should know what 'mouse over' is and how it works.

* The student should locate the Blog button along the top of the NUTIPS site.

* The student should create and navigate through the Blog setup.

* The student should locate the Calendar button along the top of the NUTIPS site.

* The student should create and navigate through the Calendar setup.


Assessment Plan

The student may do any one of the following.

1. Take the Bloggin and Calendaring test listed on Tricia Jackson's NUTIPS page.

2. Leave a comment on one of the blog postings on the Introduction to Blogging for Education on Tricia Jackson's NUTIPS page.

3. The student will publish the blog created and send an e-mail to the instructor with the web address listed. The instructor will e-mail back and the student can unpublish the site if needed.
