Summary

Students will be given a six-traits writing assignment on a topic in genetics, bioengineering or other related sciences. They will research the topic and take a position based on their findings.


Materials


Background for Teachers

This assignment could be completed in 2 class periods, one for research and one for the actual writing. The assignment could also be a homework assignment.


Instructional Procedures

  1. Students will be given the handout with the assignment explanation and directions attached.
  2. Go over the instructions with the students.
  3. Point out the list of possible topics for research.
  4. Also make sure students are aware of the 6-traits rubric that is shown on their handout.


Assessment Plan

Use the six-traits rubric printed on the student handout.
