How do I view my CACTUS - Utah Licensing record and CACTUS id?

To view your CACTUS - Utah Licensing record you must log into my.uen and navigate to your Personal my.uen page. Use the CACTUS (Utah Licensing) link located in the Services / Tools portlet.

If this is your first time into CACTUS, you will be instructed to enter your date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number. Use the Verify Me button.

If you have previously viewed your CACTUS record, your CACTUS id should be displayed at the top of your Personal my.uen page.

How do I update my contact information on my CACTUS record?

What is the difference between the Personal page and the Editing Public Page?

Your Public my.uen page is a web page that you can "build" or customize to help you communicate with students, parents and the general public.  You can:

  • Post announcements and messages
  • Share calendar events
  • Create and customize multiple pages

Your Personal my.uen page is a private web page that is for your eyes only.  This is where you go to:

  • View your Utah Educator Licensing information in CACTUS
  • Access UEN's Tools, such as the Lesson Plan Tool and Rubric Tool

No one but you will see your Personal page. Unlike the previous my.uen, the Personal page is NOT a mirror image of your Public page. You can have unique content on each page.

When you log into the new my.uen the first time you will be prompted to set your default start page to either the Edit Public Page or to the Personal Page.

What is a portlet?

Portlets are the “Stuff” or “Gadgets” that you want displayed on your my.uen pages.  Many portlets can be customized with your personal information or preferences.  For example, the Weather portlet allows you to enter one or more zip codes and receive local weather forecasts.

How can I change my login name?

Follow these steps:

  1. Use the "Edit Name and Login" link at the top of the page
  2. Update the "Choose Log-in name" field
  3. Use the Save button

The system will check to see if your desired login name is valid and available. If it is, you were successful. If it is not, you will receive an error message.

Can I post student assignments on my.uen?

There are a couple of ways to share student assignments on your my.uen page.

  • Use the Assignments Message portlet to post information about your student assignments. (Learn how to Add Content to your pages.)


  • Type your assignment into a Word document and use the Documents Manager portlet to upload the file and the My Documents portlet to display the file.

What web address should I share with my parents and students so that they can visit my page?

The web address or URL to your my.uen page is posted at the top of your Personal page and your Public page under your name.

It will be similar to:

How do I rename a page / tab or a portlet?

To rename a page:

  1. Click on the tab once to bring it to the front, and then click on it again to bring into focus (See image on the right.) rename tab
  2. Delete the tab's existing name
  3. Type a new name for the page
  4. Use the Save option.

To rename a portlet:

  1. Click on the current portlet name and when you see a cursor use your keyboard's Delete button to remove the existing name
  2. Type a new name for the portlet
  3. Click somewhere else on the page

Where are the links to the lesson plans and rubrics I created?

Your lesson plans and the other resources you may have created using UEN's tools are available on the new my.uen.

  1. Navigate to your Edit my Public page.
  2. Use the "Add Page Content" link in the upper right corner.
  3. Go to the "My Stuff" category and add the "My UEN Content" portlet.
  4. Use the Edit button on that portlet to display the resources you want the public to see.

What is the RSS portlet?

The RSS portlet allows you to include formatted news and information from external Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds on your my.uen page. By pointing the RSS portlet at a particular feed, the portlet will display the feed's most up-to-date content every time the portal page is refreshed. For example, if you add a New York Times news feed, whenever the New York Times updates the RSS file, the portlet will reflect those updates the next time your my.uen page is reloaded.

The RSS portlet on your my.uen page has 3 default RSS feeds. To change the RSS feeds use the edit button on the portlet and replace the URLs with RSS feed URLs of your choice.

Why do I see edit buttons on the portlets when I visit my Public page?

If you attempt to visit your public my.uen page (ex: while you are still logged into my.uen, you will see edit buttons at the top of each portlet. After logging out of my.uen you will be able to view your public page just as students, parents and general public will see it.

How do I edit or delete a calendar event?

  1. Login and navigate to your my.uen calendar.
  2. Click on the calendar's "Events" tab.
    This will list ALL of the events you previously added.
  3. Click on the "Actions" button that is on the far right of an event's row.
    You will see 3 options: Edit, Export and Delete

To delete multiple calendar events, select the checkbox next to the events you want to delete and then use the "Delete Selected Events" button.

How can I create a calendar event for a specific page / tab?

When you add or edit a calendar event you will see two display options:

  • Display on all Tabs
  • Display only on this Tab

Note: if you remove the calendar portlet from a tab, all unique events that were associated to that tab will be deleted.

Which browsers does my.uen work with?

We recommend using the latest version of Firefox. Some older browsers do not support established web standards, and may have difficulty in displaying content as intended. If you are using an older version, click any of the links below to download a free browser upgrade:

* The WYSIWYG editor in the my.uen Message portlets does not work with Netscape 7.2. Firefox is the preferred browser.

You'll need to enable both JavaScript and Cookies in order to fully utilize all of the my.uen features. For instructions on how to do this, please consult your browser's help pages.

How do I clear my web browser's cache?

Each time you access a file through your web browser, the browser caches (stores) it. In this way, the files (including any images on the page) do not have to be retrieved anew from the remote web site each time you click the Back or Forward buttons. You should periodically clear the cache to allow your browser to function more efficiently.

Can I be notified when new features are added to my.uen?

Yes, you can sign up for the my.uen notification service. We assure you that we will not use your e-mail address for anything else but sending out a short notification e-mail - maybe once every couple of weeks or so.

I'm having trouble updating my message portlet, what can I do?

Some educators have reported problems with the my.uen announcement / assignment message portlets. Usually the problem is caused when content is copied from a Microsoft Word document and pasted into the message portlet. Word adds a lot of extra (behind-the-scene) markup tags, which can wreak havoc on your message portlet.

To clear out a message portlet, follow these steps:

  1. Edit the message portlet that you are having problems with by clicking on the edit icon.
  2. Use on the "HTML" button within the WYSIWYG editor. This will open up another window and show you all the HTML code.
  3. Select all of the text within the window and delete it.
  4. Use the "Update" button. This will remove the text and return you to the WYSIWYG editing screen.
  5. Use the "Save" button and then the "Close" button. All your text should be removed and you are now ready to add new content to your message portlet.
  6. Note: You may have to use the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser to complete the steps above. (The Firefox browser may not allow you to successfully delete the content.)

Tips for editing your message portlets:

  • Avoid copying text from a Microsoft Word document and pasting into the message portlet because a lot of unnecessary html code is automatically added and that could cause display and editing problems.
  • If you want to type your text in a word processor before adding it to the my.uen message portlet, use WordPad or Notepad or TextEdit.

What are these links on my web page?

If you are seeing text links on your web page that should not be there, you have probably experienced a browser hijacking. Don't worry, it's usually not as scary as it sounds, just annonying. There are several forms, but most common is 'Text Enhance' and 'Coupon Companion'.

Text Enhance is adware categorized as a 'Browser Hijacker' that attaches to your web browser as an extension, add-on, or cookie without your knowledge or consent. You can get infected by downloading a program or visiting a web site. The links that appear on the web site are spam advertisements that allow the owners to generate income.

Note: These links are NOT on your actual web page, they are on your computer only. It is also possible that the hijacker has put malicious scripts onto your computer. In most cases you can go into your 'tools' and then 'extensions' or 'add-ons' in your browser settings and disable them. Visit this web page for more information on how to disable them
