Newport, Rhode IslandSunday, May 5
12:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1Samantha kicks off her visit at the beautiful Rose Island Lighthouse, just off the coast of Newport, and learns from preservationist Charlotte Johnson about how the island and its historic structures were saved, and are now available for overnight guests. In Newport, Samantha visits what is likely the oldest family business in America--the John Stevens shop--where Nick Benson and his family carry on the ancient craft of stone carving in a building older than the United States itself. With history found in every plot of ground, Samantha meets Newport Historian Keith Stokes, who reveals the hidden history of God's Little Acre, a Colonial-era cemetery whose gravestones tell the story of the African American experience in Rhode Island. They also visit Division Street, where advocates for religious freedom and the abolition of slavery were once uneasy neighbors with slave traders. Strolling on Newport's famous Cliff Walk, Samantha takes in spectacular views of the windswept Atlantic and Gilded Age mansions before stepping inside Marble House, the "cottage" owned by Alva Vanderbilt, a champion of the American suffragette movement. No visit to Rhode Island is complete without clams so Samantha takes to the water to try her hand at harvesting these mouth-watering mollusks with a little help from local shell fisherman David Ghigliotti. Samantha enjoys these fruits of the sea compliments of TR McGrath, whose family business carries on the tradition of Rhode Island clambakes. TR teaches Samantha how to end her Rhode Island trip right by making the perfect Rhode Island clam chowder-then treats her to a seaside lobster and clambake to top it all off. -

Starting in Vienna she visits a cafe run by grandmothers who make their own cakes from scratch. Visiting Quebec City, she meets with Chef Francois-Emmanuel Nicol to learn about La Taniere Restaurant, and samples some unique "Boreal" dishes. Looking for some Latin fare, she goes to Phoenix and visits "The Tamale Store" and learns all about this classic Mexican dish. In the Florida Keys, Samantha samples different versions of the classic dessert from there, the key lime pie. While visiting Budapest she gets a tour of the famous food market there by local expert, Marti. She then learns to cook the famous Hungarian "Chicken Paprikash" at Marti's home kitchen. Back in the Hudson Valley Samantha visits with an Oaxacan family that has been serving traditional dishes at their restaurant "La Cabinita" in Poughkeepsie. As a last stop, she visits "The Free House" in Nelson, New Zealand enjoying hand pulled beer with the charismatic owner. -

6:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1Visiting her hometown state, Samantha arrives on Lake Winnipesaukee aboard the M/S Mount Washington and goes straight to Funspot, the world's largest arcade. Not only does she play her childhood favorite video games, but gets a chance to chat with legendary owner, Bob Lawton. From there, Samantha grabs a tasty bite at a wildly popular local farm-to-table restaurant, aptly named Local Eatery. Samantha continues her tour of the Lakes Region by taking a loon-spotting cruise on Squam Lake, where she learns of the indigenous wildlife. Heading to the White Mountains Region, Samantha gets a sugar rush at Chutters, home of the world's longest candy counter, then takes a stroll through the remarkable town of Littleton, where she listens to a ukulele quartet perform at Northern Lights Music. Samantha concludes her trip with tea time at the historic Omni Mount Washington Resort, and a Cog Railway ride to the summit of Mount Washington State Park. -
Melbourne, AustraliaSunday, April 28
12:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1Samantha visits one of the world's "most livable cities" and finds out why Australians--and visitors from around the world--flock to Melbourne year after year. After a walk along the picturesque Yarra River, Sam experiences the hidden treasures of Melbourne and learns of its rich history as a gold rush town that has morphed into a cosmopolitan mecca for artists, foodies, and cafe/coffee culture. She attends a match of the Women's Australian Football League and discovers firsthand how Melbournians love their sports teams! In the heart of the city, Samantha takes in the artistic and cultural hub known as Federation Square where street art, culture, and great food meet. She samples aboriginal fare at Big Esso restaurant as native Chef Nornie Berro introduces her to traditional foods prepared with a modern twist, including crocodile, emu, and Australian water plants. Sam then travels to the breathtaking Yarra Valley where she meets the staff of Healesville Animal Sanctuary and gets up close to unique Aussie animals including kangaroos, wallabies, and koalas. Nearby, Sam visits Four Pillars Gin, where owner Cameron Mackenzie shows Sam how they sustainably manufacture their product while incorporating flavors unique to the country. To end her day, Sam travels back to Melbourne and the Interlude Cocktail Bar where two female, Aboriginal entrepreneurs are putting their spin on happy hour food and libations. To end her trip, Samantha catches up with an old friend at Melbourne's favorite shopping and meeting spot, Queen Victoria Market, and she discovers local delicacies like finger limes, squid ink sausage, fresh seafood, and the always-popular Australian meat pies. -

Samantha then visits one of her personal favorite tea shops, Harney & Sons in nearby Millerton, and talks with its master tea blender. Visiting Hyde Park, Samantha discusses the accomplishments of Eleanor Roosevelt with a National Park Ranger at Val-Kill, a National Historic Site, and only National Historic Site dedicated to a First Lady. Continuing on, Samantha visits the Barrett Art Center and talks with accomplished artist, Ransome, about his art influence and the importance of his work. Finishing off her trip she visits Innisfree Garden, one of the top 10 gardens in the world and takes in the beautiful views. -

6:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1Samantha meets up with an old friend to sample some of the best barbecue in town at Pecan Lodge. She then is off to explore the downtown Arts District strolling through Klyde Warren Park and enjoying the powerful sculptures at Nasher Sculpture Center. Continuing onto the Bishop Arts District, Samantha gets to taste unique chocolate creations at the ever-imaginative Dude, Sweet Chocolate, then grabs a cup a coffee at the super hip book store, The Wild Detectives, and finishes off by meeting artist Travis Austin, who custom designs a cowboy hat for her. Hitting Deep Ellum, Samantha learns about its nightlife first stopping off at Purepecha, where she enjoys a special 8-course authentic Mexican meal with Chef Regino. Deep Ellum is all about the music, especially at The Blue Light Dallas, where Samantha enjoys soulful songs performed by talented artist Erick Willis and his band. -
Portland, OregonSunday, April 21
12:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1The City of Roses surrounds Samantha in beautiful blooms as she begins her tour of Portland's International Rose Test Garden and learns from Curator Rachel Burlington how the city earned its nickname. Samantha finds Portland to be a place where creators of all types flourish when she meets the chefs and entrepreneurs behind the Dame Collective of restaurants--Lauro Romero and Jane Smith. Samantha samples food from Chef Lauro's eatery, Clandestino. Delving further into Portland's food scene, Samantha meets Hector Zamora, an immigrant whose dream of bringing the best in Guatemalan coffee to America resulted in founding his coffee shop, Cafe Zamora, which has become a highlight of the Portland coffee scene. Samantha then visits Freeland Distillery where Master Distiller Molly Troupe guides her through a tasting of the unique gin flavors, she creates that make Freeland a local standout--including cherry blossom and forest. Sam finds delicious offerings at her next stop, too--the L'il America food pod, a cluster of food trucks owned and operated by a rainbow coalition of Portland's best food entrepreneurs whose offerings represent their heritage, proclivities, and the best Portland has to offer. Then it's on to Steelport where Samantha learns from owner and knife-maker, Eytan Zias, the fine art of sharpening knives forged and hand-crafted in Portland using all American-made materials. While making knives in his shop, Eytan wears an all-leather apron hand-made at Samantha's next stop--Orox Leather. Here, Samantha speaks with father and son team Jose and Levi Martinez about their own immigrant experience and how they established a successful business handcrafting everything from leather aprons to purses, backpacks, wallets, and even hats. Next, Samantha ventures outside the city for an inspiring trip down the Tualatin River with the team from Adventures Without Limits, an outdoor adventure company serving people whose physical and mental limitations might otherwise keep them from experiencing the great outdoors. Samantha wraps up her trip at the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center and gets a hands-on lesson in what it took to be a successful pioneer from Interpreter John Jarvie. -

From there she visits a popular Sugar Shack, where she learns about making maple syrup, and has a traditional Quebec meal with the owners. Exploring further, Samantha walks the picturesque streets of Petit Champlain, where she stops in a woodcarving shop and discusses the history of the storied neighborhood. Continuing on, Samantha meets Bonhomme, the legendary snowman "Ambassador of the Quebec Winter Carnival," and learns of the Carnival's history and importance in Canada. Samantha then visits the Hotel de Glace (Ice Hotel), a seasonal hotel built out of ice, the only one of its kind in North America. Before she heads home, she takes a thrilling toboggan run on a course built in 1884. -

6:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1Samantha goes sailing around the historic British Virgin Islands with Capt. Lisa Roland and learns sailing essentials while at sea. For her first stop in Virgin Gorda, Samantha plants coconut trees in Spring Bay as part of the Seeds of Love initiative, then hikes through the Baths, a Caribbean natural wonder. Arriving at Anegada Island, a local guide takes Samantha for a cruise and makes her conch ceviche with freshly harvested conch and she has the honor of depositing the conch on "Conch Island". Samantha next meets Chef Sam at Potters by the Sea, who preps Caribbean lobsters in the most unusual way at this local favorite. In Cane Garden Bay, Samantha chats with famed musician Quito Rymer and watches him perform live with his band. Back at sea, Capt. Lisa brings Samantha to Josh Van Dyke to the world-famous Soggy Dollar Bar to try its legendary Painkiller drink. Finishing off her trip, Samantha and Capt. Lisa snorkel at one of BVI's top snorkel sites, the Indians. -
New Hampshire's Coast and MoreSunday, April 14
12:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1It's the bright lights of the stage for Samantha as she joins the cast of RENT for a vocal warmup on stage at Manchester's historic Palace Theatre before meeting CEO Peter Ramsey for a tour of the fully restored gem of a playhouse. In Manchester's Cat Alley, artists Vivian Beer and Dave Hady introduce Samantha to this one-of-a-kind feline fiesta of street art and good vibes. Nearby, Samantha takes in the fascinating historical artifacts on display at the Millyard Museum and talks with local expert John Clayton about how Manchester became a model city and hotspot of forward-thinking during the Industrial Revolution--a spirit that was carried into the computer age by Ralph Baer, Manchester resident and the founding father of modern video games. Then it's on to scenic Portsmouth where Sam finds something new to explore in the Museum of Dumb Guy Stuff (the brainchild of two retired guys united by a quirky passion for history and a need to stay out of their wives' hair). For an excellent coffee break, Samantha pops into Cup of Joe where she meets owner and Portsmouth's Assistant Mayor, JoAnna Kelley. In nearby Dover, Samantha is taught the fine art of making authentic dumplings at Hong Asian Noodle Bar where three friends created a restaurant serving the food they grew up with in China. To wash it all down, Samantha heads to Throwback Brewery in North Hampton, where she "throws back" a pint of hand-crafted microbrew with Master Brewer Annette Lee. Samantha is nostalgic as she heads to her former hometown of New Castle and meets her mom, Ellie Mae Brown, for a "beach day" before visiting a nearby grand dame coastal hotel, Wentworth by the Sea. She ends her trip with a cool cocktail and hot jazz at Jimmy's Jazz Club in Portsmouth. -

Launching from the Miccosukee reservation, Samantha takes an airboat tour through the heart of the Everglades with guide, Charles Kropke, who discuss the indigenous wildlife, history of the area and the proud Miccosukee Tribe that inhabit it. In the Design District, Samantha discusses the Miami food scene with Chef Brad Kilgore at his popular restaurant, Ember Miami, where they sample his fire-roasted 30-layer lasagna and tasty Rice Krispy treats. From jackfruit to allspice to the miracle fruit, Samantha tours the unique Fruit & Spice Park, where over 500 varieties of fruit, vegetables, spices & herbs from around the world all locally grown in this unique park. At Cubaocho Museum & Performing Arts Center in Little Havana, Samantha talks with art collector/owner, Roberto Ramos, at his one-of-a-kind venue that features musical performances, a bar specializing in rum and where the story of Cuba is told via rotating art. In Overtown, Samantha visits the Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum and talks with 93-year old Lt. Archie McKay, who served on the force of Miami's first all-black police station and courthouse established in 1954. 6:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1Samantha takes to the Sonoma coastline on a road trip stopping off at various beaches and talks to a local guide about sustainability in Sonoma, the Pacific coast and what to look for off the beaten path. Turning to mainland Sonoma County, at California Carnivores, Samantha learns plants are also meat eaters, as she is marveled by the beauty and appetite of pitcher plants and Venus flytraps. Samantha then has a cider tasting in wine country at Devoto Gardens & Orchards that makes their ciders from heirloom apples. In an unexpected twist on a zoo, Samantha goes on an African Safari at Safari West and gets a chance to go face-to-face with a rhinoceros. A personal favorite, Samantha is delighted when she visits the Charles M. Schulz Museum and talks "Peanuts" with Charles' widow, Jeannie. Making cheese is quite the process which Samantha learns firsthand at the Achadinha Cheese Company, then has the pleasure to meet legendary wine-producer Reynaldo Robledo at his Robledo Family Winery, taste some of his flawless vintages and talk about his Mexican family heritage and the winery's roots. -

12:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1The Great White North beckons as Samantha begins her tour of this jewel-like Canadian city with Charlayne Thornton-Joe, Coordinator of the Chinese Canadian Museum found in Fan Tan Alley, the narrowest commercial street in North America. Charlayne tells of her ancestors' immigrant experience in Canada and shares authentic Chinese barbecued pork with Samantha at Loy Sing Meat Market, the oldest Chinese-owned business on the continent. Next, Samantha meets Richard Bell of The Pedaler Bike Tours and takes in the sites of Victoria including the Parliament Building and Beacon Hill Park. She ends her bicycle adventure with a delicious fish and chips lunch at Finest at Sea. Samantha marvels at the charm of Fisherman's Wharf, then joins Captain Brett Soberg of Eagle Wing Whale-Watching and Wildlife Tours for a breathtaking afternoon on the water complete with Humpback Whale sightings. Samantha learns about the emphasis they place on sustainability and conservation to improve the environment for the area's magnificent wildlife and for future generations to enjoy this special part of the world. Next, Samantha enjoys a unique cocktail experience at one of the most iconic hotels in the world--the Fairmont Empress. With a gorgeous sunset view of Victoria Harbor, Samantha enjoys tea-infused cocktails inspired by the high tea service for which the hotel is famous. The beauty of British Columbia comes to a crescendo at Butchart Gardens where Samantha tours the heavenly landscape with Director of Horticulture, Carlos Moniz, and learns how and why a former rock quarry transformed into one of the most beautiful gardens on earth. 6:00 pm on UEN-TV 9.1Samantha bicycles through the sprawling Brancott Estate vineyards, which was the first to grow and bottle Sauvignon Blanc in Marlborough, and then visits the te Pa Family Vineyards, where she learns of its 800-year old Maori roots. From land to sea, Samantha explores the Marlborough Sounds aboard the Pelorus Mail Boat, where she helps deliver mail to the locals who live off the beaten path. Havelock is the mussel capital of the world, here Samantha indulges at Mills Bay Mussels, which serves up tasty variations of green shell mussels. In Nelson, Samantha meets Dame Suzie Moncrieff at the World of Wearable Art (WOW), where experienced designers, students and novices from around the globe compete at their hugely prestigious event. Samantha then strolls through town with Grant Smithies, New Zealand's premier music writer, and learns about the happening Nelson scene. Taking to the sky, Samantha helicopters to a Lord of the Rings filming location at the peak of Mount Olympus, where Pilot Bill Reid shares stories of scouting with Director Peter Jackson. In Abel Tasman National Park, Samantha walks along Awaroa Beach and talks with Adam Gardner, who co-led a crowdfunding campaign raising $2+ million NZ dollars to purchase the beach and gifted it back the New Zealanders.
