Lesson Plans

Strand 6: HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (HD)

Students will learn basic anatomy, universal precautions, and skills to report abuse. Utah Code requires parental notification for instruction on child sexual abuse prevention.

Standard 3.HD.3:

Discuss how to clearly say no, leave a situation or interaction, and identify and talk with a trusted adult when feeling uncomfortable, afraid, or unsafe.
  • Human Body Systems
Students will be researching and exploring 6 systems of the human body: the muscular system, the skeletal system, the nervous system, the respiratory system, the circulatory system, and the digestive system. Students will be divided into 6 groups, where they will research a assigned body system. From there, each group creates a mini-lesson using the app, Explain Everything, to teach their assigned system, create a life-size diagram of their system, and create jeopardy questions for a class game.
  • Retell Reader's Theater: Recess Queen
Students learn about bullying and describe what bullying looks and feels like. In contrast, they experience the feelings of being helpful and nice to peers when they need it.
