Strand 1: HEALTH FOUNDATIONS AND PROTECTIVE FACTORS OF HEALTHY SELF (HF)

Students will understand the responsibility and outcomes of personal decisions. Students will also apply their knowledge to develop social and emotional competence to make healthy and safe choices.

Standard HI.HF.3:

Practice resiliency skills.
  • Building Bridges Between Us
    This lesson will help students understand the personal behaviors that contribute to, or detract from, a safe and caring community.
  • Challenges: Stand Up and Stand Out
    In this lesson students will understand the impact of attitude and disposition when facing challenges and Identify positive ways to deal with challenges and adversity.
  • Communication
    The basic concepts of communication. How to improve communication. Body language and the messages we are sending.
  • Learn From Your Mistakes
    Learn From Your Mistakes is a lesson in which students will recognize and discuss the benefits of learning and growing from mistakes and not repeating them.
  • One of a Kind
    The objectives of this lesson are to recognize and appreciate qualities and attributes that make each person "one of a kind," and identify positive personal qualities and attributes in self and others.
  • Positive Thoughts = Positive Feelings
    This lesson will teach students how to identify and redirect negative thoughts and establish "positive self-talk" skills.
  • Self Acceptance
    This lesson plan integrates Health Standard 1 (self acceptance) with Language Arts Standard 8 (use Technology to Facilitate Writing). It helps students recognize strengths in themselves and others as well as teaching them to write in verse.
  • Self-Awareness
    This lesson is designed to help students recognize their attitudes, emotions, feelings and personality; how they view themselves and how other classmates view them.
  • Self-esteem and Self Talk Adapted for Special Education
    Students will learn the definitions of healthy self-esteem and non- healthy self-esteem. Students will identify the benefits of feeling good about themselves. Students will learn the definition of healthy self-talk.
