Strand 4: SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION (SAP)
Students will learn how substances affect the developing brain, practice ways to resist peer pressure, and examine consequences of substance use.
Standard HI.SAP.4:
Investigate potential short and long-term consequences (for example, physical, mental and emotional, social, legal, financial) of alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, and other substance use, including the misuse of prescription drugs.

Drugs in Society
Students will identify types of drugs, the short and long-term effects, and identify strategies for maintaining a drug-free lifestyle.

Nicotine Addiction and Quitting
The activities in this lesson will help students understand why tobacco is addictive and how and why people quit using tobacco.

This is your brain. . .this is your brain on drugs.
Students will use the iPad to create a public service announcement on the dangers of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. They can use an app like iMovie to create the 30 second commercial.

Truth About Tobacco
Students will identify the short- and long-term effects of tobacco use.

Uppers, Downers and All Arounders
This lesson will help students to understand how alcohol, tobacco and other drugs affect the human body and can impair an individual's actions.
