Summary

This lesson is the fourth in a series of six that teach basic Desktop Publishing skills with Quark XPress. Other DTP software can also be used. In this lesson, students will lay out an oversized document (tabloid size) and irregularly shaped pieces to create the box for a videotape.


Materials

Student instruction sheets (VideoBoxStudent.doc and VideoBoxStudent.pdf) and sample page (VideoBoxSample.pdf) as well as relevant graphics.


Background for Teachers

Appropriate computer system with Quark XPress or other DTP application.


Student Prior Knowledge

Successful completion of Quark XPress projects 1-3 (Quotation, Business Card, and Certificate).


Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to: (1) Lay out a complex document with tabloid size and irregular dimensions; (2) Design shapes using the pen tool; (3) Create a unified design and color scheme appropriate for the video advertised, and (4) Add symbols, text, and graphics with good design principles.
