Summary

Prior to starting the project students will take a home safety survey. Students will complete a powerpoint presentation on a foodborne illness and present it to the class. As an additional activity we will do an experiment on food safety

  • Rubric for presentation
  • Worksheet for the Food safety experiment


Student Prior Knowledge

As a last lesson in the unit students will have an understanding of what are pathogens,how the immune system helps us to try to stay healthy.


Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will learn about pathogens that cause foodborne illnesses. Students will learn food safety at home in order to prevent getting sick. From the experiment students will be able to observe how bacteria affects food


Instructional Procedures

Students will have one week in the computer lab to complete the powerpoint and one week of classtime for presentations. Students will record for one week the results from the Food safety experiment and share the results with the class.


Strategies for Diverse Learners

Special needs students will get a modified, simpler rubric for the powerpoint and allowed extra time as required by their 504's or IEP


Assessment Plan

Students will be assessed on their behavior in the computer lab and during class presentations. Students will be graded on results of the experiment.
