Materials

Background for Teachers

Teachers may want to preview the PowerPoint presentation and read the case studies before presenting them to the class.

Because each school sets its own rules, teachers will want to speak to their School Resource Officer or an administrator to identify the school and legal consequences for inappropriate cell phone and Internet use.

Instructional Procedures

  1. Share the PowerPoint presentation on the appropriate use of technology with your class. You may want to call on students to read the slides so that they are actively involved.

  2. Divide the class into groups of 6 to 8 students. Give each group a copy of one of the case studies about appropriate use of technology.

Ask students to read, discuss and present the case study to the class. A representative of each group should summarize the case study, explain their feelings on whether the characters acted responsibly or not, and lead the class in a discussion using the questions provided.

  3. Give students the Post Test.

Strategies for Diverse Learners

Students may volunteer to read aloud the material presented in the PowerPoint to aid the struggling readers.

The PowerPoint Presentation may be printed and handed out to the students to be used as study material. Students may be encouraged to role play the case studies.

Assessment Plan

Students will be graded on their participation in the small group discussion and in leading the class discussion on the case studies. In addition, the post test can be used to assess student learning.
