Background for Teachers

The Teacher needs to visit with the librarian to make an appointment to bring students into the library to use the card catalog.


Student Prior Knowledge

Students need to know the following: How to access the library card catalog, How books are arranged in the library, and library vocabulary.


Intended Learning Outcomes

Students should be able to access the card catalog. Students should be able to find both non-fiction and fiction books by their call numbers


Instructional Procedures

  1. The librarian will explain how the online card catalog works.
  2. Students will be given a handout with the basic library vocabulary
  3. Students will be given a map of the library.
  4. Students will go online and find a book in each of the Dewey Decimal System subject areas. For example a book in 0-99, 100-299, etc.
  5. Students will go to the stacks and find the book.
